Changes to Statutory Payments, April 2019

National Minimum Wage, effective from 1 April 2019:
The Chancellor, Philip Hammond, has announced the new increased rates of National Living Wage (NLW) and National Minimum Wage (NMW). The increases will affect 2.4 million workers. These new rates will be effective from 1 April 2019.
From April 2019, minimum pay rates will increase as below.
- National Living Wage (workers ages 25+): From £7.83 to £8.21 per hour
- Workers aged 21-24: From £7.38 to £7.70 per hour
- Workers aged 18-20: From £5.90 to £6.15 per hour
- Workers aged 16-18: From £4.20 to £4.35 per hour
- Apprentice rate: From £3.70 to £3.90 per hour.
The accommodation offset rate will rise to £7.55.
Statutory Maternity & Adoption Pay, effective from 7 April 2019:
The rate of statutory maternity pay is rising to £148.68 from April 2019. The increase normally occurs on the first Sunday in April, which
The rate of statutory adoption pay will increase from £145.18 to £148.68.
Statutory Paternity Pay, effective from 7 April 2019:
Also on 7 April 2019, the rates of statutory paternity pay and statutory shared parental pay will go up from £145.18 to £148.68 (or 90% of the employee’s average weekly earnings if this figure is less than the statutory rate).
Statutory Sick Pay, effective from 6 April 2019:
The rate of statutory sick pay is also increasing from £92.05 to £94.25 on 6 April 2019. To be entitled to these statutory payments, the employee’s average earnings must be equal to or more than the lower earnings limit.
The lower earnings limit is increasing from £116 to £118 in April 2019.
Redundancy Pay, effective from 6 April 2019:
Employers making redundancies must pay those with 2 years’ service an amount based on their weekly pay, length of service and age. The maximum weekly pay that can be taken into account is increasing from £508 to £525.
